DODO Raphus cucullatus Family : Raphidae Habitat : Mauricius Island Height : 65 cm Dutch mariners arrived on Mauritius Island during september of 1598 ; within 40 years Dutch arrival, the Dodo was virtually extinct, unable to withstand the joint assaults of man and the mammals he introduced (pigs rats). The most famous Dodo relics of all are a stuffed head and a foot (Museum of Zoology of Oxford) and bones. The Dodo is in « Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland»
